It's difficult for Australia to break new ground.

The greatest achievements have already been conquered.

This is the squad that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, plus another six T20 titles, and once went nearly four years undefeated in 50-over cricket.

The secondary achievements, those for the record chasers, are what's still available for a team that has won it all.

The fact it required up to Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase above 300, taking back their record for the biggest in the women's 50-over format, is, in truth, a compliment to the bowlers that have worn canary yellow over the last half-century.

It is hard for their batsmen to hold a record if not provided the opportunity.

Finally, the result of Australia conceding 330 was leader Alyssa Healy getting a chance to produce her latest masterpiece.

Then best known as the teenage relative of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after her nation couldn't capture either of the T20 or ODI World Cups conducted earlier and has seen it all through 15 trophy-laden years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup happened three months after her first appearance and seven international trophies have resulted from 10 efforts across formats.

The tough gloveman was present as well in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India briefly halted the winning streak.

That loss "drove us to reevaluate our levels," Healy said this week.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy made 170 against England in the title decider and was declared player of the series. She ensured her country would not fail again.

If this newest brilliant performance exceeded that prior achievement remains open for discussion.

Some will argue the reasoning behind championship match pressure. Others can counter with the test that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What is certain is this ton was considerably tougher to see coming.

The New Zealand onslaught in 2022 occurred when she was the highest scorer, but this performance followed six innings in India from the beginning of the previous month in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"For those following me in the nets, it's been a challenging time because I feel like I lacked timing completely," said Healy.

"Yet the moment you enter the playing area, your competitive instincts take over and you completely engage with the competition."

Healy's competitive nature has always been her great strength - and an irreplaceable characteristic in taking over from legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's rising star Kranti Gaud in the previous month's ODI series, fallen to the 22-year-old seamer in each encounter, but this time it merely gave Healy's spark.

A single was taken off the opening delivery and after that the batsman was on her way.

"An opportunity to take the field and engage in competition with her and merely enjoy the moment that way, sort of got me going," said Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 pitches - her fastest at the global tournament - and her hundred in 84 balls as she attacked short-pitched balls, scoring 21 fours and three big hits.

By the time she was out her side needed 66 additional runs at a run-a-ball - an unconquered height now needing a comfortable finish.

"Chasing 330 runs is unfamiliar ground so I'm pleased we have the confidence to do that now," stated Healy further.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to do it another time but, should it happen, we believe we can succeed."

Those words will be the last Australia's opponents at this championship should hear.

During the last week a sense they will win from any position has grown stronger - this success succeeding success over Pakistan by 107 runs despite sitting at 76-7 at a certain moment.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before a match against traditional opponents England in Indore in ten days, by which point a semi-final place may likely be confirmed.

During that phase they were eliminated from last year's T20 World Cup in a surprising setback by South Africa - a match Healy couldn't play because of ruptured tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the first time at a significant event.

Such is her determination, she subsequently stated she regretted not playing through the pain.

Yet even as she afterwards confessed those fitness problems have pushed back consideration of ending her career, this championship is anticipated as her concluding event as leader in ODI cricket and she is still to achieve a global event as skipper.

Victory in India would bring her to the top of her ultimate challenge.
